Bombardier, a global leader in business aviation, began 2023 by opening their $100 million aircraft service center at the Miami Opa-Locka airport.
This 200,000 sqft aircraft hangar boasts 960ft of hangar door, which span the entire north and south sides of this pre engineered metal building. AeroDoor was awarded the design, manufacture and installation contract for these doors.
There are four 240 ft wide x 28 ft high hangar doors on this building which means AeroDoor fabricated and installed 960 ft of steel doors, 7,680ft of track and thousands of feet in conduit, wiring and soffit.
Operation of each hangar door is unlike airplane hangars where door leaves slide into pockets at the side. Door leaves are stacked behind one another and then moved as a group anywhere across the opening, the operator can stop them anywhere they want.
This configuration is known as the floating group configuration and offers greater efficiency on a wide bodied hangar. There are operator controls on the inside and outside of the door leaves for extra convenience.
Fluorescent yellow sensing edges span the leading edge door leaves and will provide a generous amount of over travel should any of these doors hit an obstruction. The sensing edges are Miller Edge 4-wire specification and include an override key switch which would mean the doors can still be used if a sensing edge develops a fault.
The ASCE rails supplied and installed by AeroDoor are 40LB/ft and have adequate drainage to handle south Florida’s torrential afternoon rainfall.
