Frequently Asked Questions

Hangar Door Design & Manufacturing

What are my options in manufacturing a hangar door?

  • Door size: Each door is custom-designed to match the specific opening dimensions of the client’s building or drawings.
  • Configuration: The configuration determines how the door leaves move during operation. This choice directly affects cost, installation time, and operational efficiency. We’ll work with you to select the configuration that best suits your building and use case.
Available configurations include: unidirectional, bi-parting, floating, and independent.
  • Upgrades: Optional enhancements include sensing edges, cable system, and rough openings for window and personnel door frames.

What are the doors made from?

We design all supporting, steel bracing and framing steel members in accordance with the specified loads and the requirements of AISC 325 and AISC 360. Any cold formed steel in accordance with AISI SG03-3. Welds in accordance with the AWS D1.1/D1.1M Standards.

Do you offer fast track manufacturing?

We will always listen and try to facilitate your delivery date requests. The time it takes for a client to approve our drawings and the lead time for raw materials will dictate this.

Are the doors motorized?

Manual operation is available; however, motors and controls are included with all doors unless otherwise noted. In the event of a power failure, the motor can be quickly disengaged, allowing the door to be operated manually.

What happens if a change order is needed during hangar door manufacturing?

Where feasible, we work with clients to accommodate change orders throughout the project.

What are the factors beyond the door itself that we should consider?

Unless specifically noted otherwise, our standard scope excludes: foundation and concrete work (including anchor bolt installation, finishing, drainage, and de-icing), building structure required to support the door system, and soffit or closure plates. Walk doors, windows, glazing, signage, lighting, vents, finishes, coatings, insulation, trim, and flashing are by others and are provided as rough openings only where applicable. Explosion-proof classifications and specialty electrical requirements are excluded unless expressly included. We do not provide service power, final electrical connection, or connections to third-party systems such as fire suppression or HVAC.

Do hangar doors include the sheeting and insulation?

No. Exterior covering, insulation, interior liner panels, perimeter trim, and flashing are excluded.

What is the standard manufacturer’s warranty?

25-years on structural defects, workmanship, frame, rollers, and wheels. Read our warranty

What voltage and phase does your hangar door require?

Electric motors will be sized according to the door system provided. Typical shall be 480V 3 phase or 208V 3 phase. Other voltage/phases are available.

What is the profile thickness of the exterior sheet and the interior liner that can be applied to the hangar door leaves?

This is the clients choice. AeroDoor only need to know the profile thickness before we the order moves to engineering.

What is the lead time for a bottom rolling hangar door?

To give yourself enough time to review and approve our engineering we suggest at a minimum of 12+ weeks for the engineering, manufacturing and delivery.

We always recommend calling for the latest lead times as they are often dictated by the size of the project and the time of year.

I’m an architect designing a new aircraft hangar. What information can you provide?

If you’re designing a new aircraft hangar, we can support you at every stage of the door design and coordination process.

We typically provide:

  • Concept-level guidance to help determine the most efficient hangar door type and configuration based on aircraft size, site constraints, and building layout.

  • Door sizing and clear-opening requirements, including opening width, height, and required wall geometry.

  • Configuration options (unidirectional, bi-parting, floating, independent) with pros, cons, and cost implications.

  • Structural and interface criteria for coordination with the PEMB manufacturer or structural engineer.

  • Preliminary loads and reactions to support early engineering and budgeting.

  • Specification language suitable for inclusion in Division 08

  • Budget pricing to help align the door design with project cost targets.

Once the project advances, we can also provide:

  • Stamped engineering (as required)

  • Detailed shop drawings and submittals.

  • In-house manufacturing, installation, and warranty with a single point of responsibility.

We’re happy to review early concepts or schematic drawings and provide feedback to help avoid costly redesigns later in the project.
