Key Hangar Door Design Factors

As an architect or engineer, here is some things we thing you’d find useful
to know about horizontal rolling hangar doors:

  • General

We offer a complete door system, manufactured and installed by AeroDoor employees.

  • Design

There is no limit to the height or width of our steel horizontal rolling doors. They can be designed to fit most new or existing buildings.

  • Configuration

Learn about the different door configurations available.

  • Door Leaves & Panels

We suggest keeping the quantity of leaves to a minimum. In most cases this will minimize the cost of the door. AeroDoor can help you make this decision.

  • Space

When the door is open, door leaves must be parked to one or both sides of the opening. If your building isn’t wide enough then consider outriggers, or a group movement configuration.

  • Structural Design

The door can be designed to any wind design criteria and deflection criteria.

  • Motors

Doors are sold manual or motorized. Motorized doors can be manually operated when needed.

  • Aesthetics

Sheeting, walk doors, windows, vents and doggie ports are typically excluded.

  • Windows & Walk Doors

Framed openings for walk doors and windows are available but we recommend working with AeroDoor to decide on position and sizes.

  • Live Load Vertical Deflection

The door can be designed one of two ways depending on which rollers are chosen. Fixed rollers provide a fixed deflection dimension, meanwhile telescoping rollers move up and down to accommodate varying levels of live load deflection.

  • Horizontal Deflection

Doors are designed to L/120 but other choices are available.

  • Power

We can build the motor operators to match your building’s power supply, but 480V 3 Phase or 208V 3 Phase is most common.

hangar door wheels with grease pin which allows for routine wheel maintenance.

Why grease pins on your hangar door wheels are critical

Wheels and bearings are critical components on a bottom rolling hangar door. They carry the weight of the door and must move freely. A door that is difficult to move will wear down drive components.

Where does AeroDoor fit into your design process?

Hangar Door Installation

Installation of the complete hangar door is by AeroDoor employees. This includes bottom rails, top track guides, door leaves, electrical components and any number of extras.

Lifetime Service

AeroDoor will accept and fulfill all future in and out of warranty service calls. We use our own employees for servicing our hangar doors.

Annual Inspections

AeroDoor offers maintenance programs for out of warranty horizontal rolling hangar doors. These are available for any brand, not just AeroDoor.

Learn about possible hangar door configurations

Designing a best fit hangar door requires considerations such as the number of tracks, or number of door leaves and motors that will impact your building design, budget costs, and the success or failure of the door when people begin using it day to day.

Here are video representations of each configuration available. More details and specs can be found in this Horizontal Rolling Hangar Door Configurations article.

First Steps: What you need to get a Hangar Door Quote

A full plan and an elevation drawing of your building would always be the most ideal, but if that is not available, there are other options.

The three key pieces of information that we need are:

  • The dimension width of the end wall. That’s the total width of the end wall that the hangar door is going to go into
  • Opening width of the hangar door
  • Opening height of the hangar door
