Waco Aircraft a classic American aircraft manufacturer recently opened a new FBO at the Executive Airport in Battle Creek Michigan. The airport is situated on a 1,260 acre site and is home to several flight operations including the largest privately owned business jet provider Duncan Aviation.
The two story 80,000 sqft facility includes Waco offices, passenger zone, conferencing facilities, pilot lounge, snooze room, restaurant and bar. The windows in the restaurant provide impressive views of the bi-planes production hangar.
There are two aircraft hangars on this project, one is capable of storing overnight aircraft up to the size of a Gulfstream G650 and the other is a maintenance repair and overhaul facility for Waco aircraft.
AeroDoor were awarded the design, manufacturing and installation of rolling hangar doors for both hangars and were erected sequentially. The width of both buildings were greater than the door openings, so it was logical to use a bi-parting configuration whereby the door splits in the middle and leaves stack each side.
The doors were engineered to meet wind and building criteria and AeroDoor provided submittals and calculations to the EOR prior to manufacturing.
The clear openings were 120ft x 28ft and 160ft x 28ft. Both doors were motorized and featured the same specifications. These included a telescoping top guide roller that allows the door to maneuver freely as the buildings live load deflection changes. Sensing edges along the leading edge of each door leaf will send a signal to stop the door motor when activated, keeping the operator and property safe from injury or damage. A 3070 walk door for fast pedestrian access, and framing for window glazing that really finishes off the hangar.
AeroDoor are responsible for the warranty on these doors for up to 5-years and will be available for emergency call outs, annual servicing and further consultation for the life of the product. More information on our service division.
