A 29,500 sqft steel aircraft hangar with a further 3,500sqft of office space. AeroDoor was contracted to provide the design, fabrication and installation of the horizontal rolling hangar door.
The hangar door was designed as a floating group. In this configuration there are 2 groups of 3 interconnected door leaves. The first and last leaf in each group are motorized with a NEMA certified control panel. Each group of 3 leaves can be moved as a stack, saving the door operator valuable time and effort. This floating group configuration maximizes the usability of the end wall, allowing aircraft to move in or out from the left, center or right side of the opening. Click to see how door leaves can be moved as a stack.
The first and last door leaves of each group are fitted with fail-safe sensing edges; this is a foam filled edge (yellow vinyl) that disengages the door motor before the steel door frame comes into contact with an obstruction. The sensing edge specification is “fail-safe” which means it will alert the operator if the edge isn’t working properly so it can be repaired or replaced. This specification is used by USACE / NAVFAC / AFCEC and NASA and is AeroDoors’ preferred choice when clients ask us about choices of sensing edge.
AeroDoor fabricated the door and delivered it to the jobsite to the client’s construction schedule. AeroDoor unloaded the door on arrival and separated the door installation into 4 phases. The first was the leveling angle and bottom rail. The second was the top guide rails and door leaves. The third was the electrical and weather seal. The fourth and final trip was for owner training and close out presentation.
AeroDoor has a good relationship with Atlantic Aviation for furnishing new hangar doors and servicing their existing doors at airports across North America.
